It's difficult for the Australian squad to achieve unprecedented feats.

The highest peaks have been successfully scaled.

This is the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, along with six more T20 titles, and previously enjoyed 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the record chasers, are what's still available for a team that has won it all.

That it took as late as Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the pitchers that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their batters to possess a record if never given the chance.

In the end, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting a chance to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Initially recognized as the teenage relative of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

A T20 championship victory happened three months after her bow and seven international trophies have resulted from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the winning streak.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this newest brilliant performance surpassed that earlier display remains open for discussion.

Certain people claim the reasoning behind final game tension. Others can counter with the challenge that comes when confronting a historic chase and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was much more difficult to anticipate.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"For those following me in practice sessions, it's been a disappointing period because it seemed I lacked timing completely," stated Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your competitive instincts take over and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in succeeding legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and from there the batsman was in motion.

"The possibility to go out there and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at a World Cup - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

By the time she was dismissed the team needed 66 additional runs at a run-a-ball - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"To chase 330 is unfamiliar ground so I'm happy we have the belief to do that now," stated Healy further.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it again but, if we do, we believe we can achieve it."

That comment will be the ultimate thing competing nations at this World Cup want to hear.

In recent days a sense they will win from any position has only strengthened - this success following success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

During that phase they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she subsequently stated she wanted to have participated with the discomfort.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those physical issues have delayed thoughts of retirement, this championship is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as skipper.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
