Cameron Norrie secured the biggest victory of his career by rebounding from a set down to defeat top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the early stage of the prestigious indoor tournament.

While he had previously beaten Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this victory signifies Norrie's initial victory over a sitting world top-ranked player.

"Enormous. So big for me," stated Norrie, who becomes the fifth British man in history to beat a global number one. "Returning from health issues last year, I lost in the first round of qualifiers here. I just tried to embrace my game in the latter part of the year. To get a win like this, it's the most significant success of my career, my initial victory over the world No 1 and arguably the most confident competitor in the world right now."

Norrie, ranked 31st in the world, also halted Alcaraz's impressive streak of nine finals in a row and 17 straight Masters 1000 victories, which marked the top run of outcomes in the Spaniard's developing career.
