Resurgent Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging period, managing just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time coach his previous coach.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is his first title since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has won 21 victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had led commentators to question if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.

But the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to create a third set.

The opponent defended 4 early-game break points in a close deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner earned the win with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
