Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be asked about his position following a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the team's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
The manager highlighted familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with outcomes like these.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is taken away, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone again the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
