The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror Merging Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay
The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.
"This is a distinctive game where a girl harboring several human souls inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.
Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness
In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four separate souls, each with unique anxieties and drives. These souls can seize control at will, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.
Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy hospital, while additional clips depict the protagonist navigating a desolate church.
An Environment of Individual Dread
"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can activate something primal within us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are unique to every individual."
The core mechanic involves managing whichever soul surfaces at a particular moment. However, these identities will change involuntarily as you play. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and attack the girl in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.
Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision
At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the lobby have large blooms where their necks are. Flowers are a recurring element, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.
Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "All four souls claims that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."
After a player believes a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. But, since each soul can lie or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.
"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The final entity remaining might be a fraud. In any case, your choices are final."
UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is available to follow on platforms.
