The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about watching this endearing family navigate their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well help usher in that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
