This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
It might not have been at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
