US Officials Disclose Detainment in Thwarted New Year's Explosive Plan Near Southern California
US authorities announced on Monday that they had managed to foil a comprehensive plan to set off explosive devices at multiple sites run by two US-based firms on New Year's Eve in the LA region. The operation resulted from the detainment of people associated with an militant faction espousing anti-capitalist and anti-authority views.

"This scheme was detailed," the attorney remarked. "It contained detailed directions to make bombs ā¦ and named multiple objectives across the county of Orange and Los Angeles."
According to the case and legal filings, the scheme called for positioning backpacks containing complex pipe bombs that were set to be exploded all at once at midnight on New Year's Eve at five places. New Year's Eve was seen as an opportune time because the document indicated "pyrotechnics will be going off at this time so explosions will be harder to be noticed."
The eight-page handwritten blueprint, named "OPERATION MIDNIGHT SUN," suggested that further targets could be included. The sites were categorized as assets and operations operated by two different corporations connected with operations affecting commerce.
Additional Plans and Proof Seized
Court documents also indicated that two people in the collective had discussed subsequent attacks targeting immigration enforcement officers and vehicles with pipe bombs in 2026. One accused allegedly commented that such attacks "would eliminate some and frighten the rest of them."

Authorities moved in last week as the suspects were practicing the strike in the desert near Twentynine Palms. "They had every item they were necessary to construct an operational explosive device at that location," the attorney stated.
